Made in India Implant

Manufacturing implants is a complicated process because of the availability of the raw material that is titanium & also the manufacturing process which requires very high-end equipment & processes. They are usually manufactured in European countries, Israel & the USA.

Recently I came across a Made in India basal implant called I-Fix One® by Kamal Encon Industries, who are also one of the leading manufacturers of cardiac stents. I liked their product & history & I was eagerly waiting to use a Made in India Implant. Finally the wait was over. Sharing a procedure done using one-piece Basal implant – I-Fix One ®.

The patient came with missing lower front teeth & wanted them to be replaced. Lower 42,41 were missing & 31 was in poor condition. We planned to remove tooth 31 & place implants at 31,42 region & give a 3-unit bridge. The lower anterior region is a challenging area, mostly because the bone at the crest is very thin, however this area, deep down has excellent bone quality giving good anchorage to the implants & primary stability.

The area was anaesthetized with Articaine 4%, my favourite for implant procedures as it helps for a comfortable procedure for the patient. Tooth 31 was extracted, the tooth socket was thoroughly cleaned & irrigated with Betadine 5%.

Following the single drill concept, a sharp osteotomy was prepared in the tooth socket reaching the basal bone. I-Fix One ® Basal 3.6 x 20mm was placed. We got a good stability of 60Ncm. A second osteotomy was made in the 42 region reaching the basal bone. No flap was raised. I-Fix One ® Basal 3.6 x 20mm was placed at a torque of 60Ncm. Using 1.5mm titanium bars, the abutments were syncrystallised. An intra oral scan was done & a provisional placed in an hour.

Here is a video of the osteotomy prep as well as the placement of the implant.

On the 5th day a 3 unit ceramic bridge was placed.

His natural teeth were very short & he did not have any guidance on them. Now we have restored the proper height of the teeth & thus the anterior guidance has been established. This will preserve his back teeth also. The patient feels it is weird, often they take time to get used to the new anterior guidance. Hence we have fixed the ceramic bridge with provisional cement. Any changes if needed we can make them in due course & fix it permanently after the patient is comfortable with the new bite.

TD24 protocol allows this liberty to help the patients get comfortable with the new bite. If the patient is not comfortable we can reduce the height & remove the guidance. This process will not affect the healing of the underlying implants.

The implant packaging is good & different. Taking the implant out from the holder is easy & can be removed without touching the implant. The implant was easy to place & got good fixation in the basal bone.

My initial experience has been good, I will be using them further & will let you know how they fare.
